Porsche claims the hottest 992 so far has a zero-to-60-mph time of 2.5 seconds, but we bet we'll beat that.

We recently rode in both the coupe and cabriolet versions of the 
992 Turbo S.

The 992 Turbo is powered by a 641-hp twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six paired with an eight-speed PDK automatic.

It won't be formally announced until early 2020.

The 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S won't go on sale until next year, but we recently rode shotgun in test mules, and now we know about the car's mind-bending specs.

The 992 Turbo S is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six with bigger turbos compared to the 991.2 Turbo S, which we tested for a review published in January. Peak boost on these upsized turbos is 17.4 psi, and the 992's intercoolers are relocated directly above the engine. You'll also be able to get optional sports to exhaust a 911 Turbo first that will turn the volume all the way up.

Porsche claims that the revised engine spins up 641 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, increases of 61 hp and 37 lb-ft. These power numbers will help launch the Turbo S from zero to 60 mph in a claimed 2.5 seconds. Manufacturer claims are almost always modest, and we bet that we'll be able to shed at least a tenth of a second off this time when we get our hands on one, given that we achieved a 2.7-second run in the old Turbo S, 0.1 seconds ahead of Porsche's claim.

All-wheel drive is standard on the 992 Turbo S, and power is sent to the four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission. Sadly, as of the most recent Turbos, there won't be a manual-transmission option.

Porsche will formally unveil the 992 Turbo S sometime next year, at which time we will bring you official photos and more information including pricing.
